Brislington sprung the biggest surprise of the day by winning 2-1 at Willand Rovers, causing the Devon side to lose the top spot to Bitton.
Dean Stamp gave Willand Rovers the lead but goals from Neikell Plummer and a Mike Rimmer penalty saw Brislington win for the first time ever at Willand.
Bitton replaced them at the top after a narrow 2-1 victory at Odd Down with the winning goal coming from Brandon Barnes in the last minute of the game. Adam Blakemore had given Bitton the lead from the penalty spot after Dean Griffiths had been upended, but the home team were awarded a penalty of their own shortly afterwards. Si Gilbert netted but the referee awarded a retake due to encroachment. This time Sam Alexander dived to save. On 36 minutes, Odd Down were awarded another penalty which again Alexander saved Gilbert’s kick, but this time the taker followed up to level the scores. Barnes pounced to settle an even contest right on time.
Larkhall Athletic’s hopes were dented by a 1-1 home draw with Bristol Manor Farm. Farm took the lead when Ross Beazer hooked a clearance into his own net, but the Larks salvaged a point when Jamie Lyons latched onto a poor clearance to fire home.
Merthyr Town eased to a 4-1 win over Wells City with goals from Steve Williams, Ryan Prosser, Alan Griffiths and Jamie Manson. Kyle McErlain bagged a consolation goal for City.
Lewis Morgan gave Sherborne Town the lead after a quarter of an hour at home to Bishop Sutton but it proved to be a false dawn as the visitors marched back to rattle in six goals. Kyle Shawcross, Jordan Metters, Billy Downs 2, Todd Winters and an own goal.
Cadbury Heath now head the First Division on goal difference from Melksham Town after both teams recorded wins at the weekend.
Melksham Town had the most notable success, winning 2-1 at overnight leaders Gillingham Town. Luke Smith gave Melksham the lead with a deflected shot and top scorer Gary Higdon doubled the lead two minutes later. Ryan Murray reduced the arrears from a free kick in the second half.
Cadbury Heath notched a 2-0 home win over Chard Town to move to the top of the table. Mark Reynolds found the net in both halves for the Heathens who still have two games in hand on their rivals.
Calne Town slipped to a 4-2 defeat at Shepton Mallet to lose vital ground. Joe Morgan gave Shepton the lead on 25 minutes and Dean Grubb doubled the lead. Morgan notched his second goal before half time and after the break Brad Allen headed in the fourth goal. Calne did stage a comeback with goals from Tyler Shepherd and Levi Cox.
Bottom of the table Devizes Town edged a 1-0 win over Almondsbury UWE at Nursteed Road thanks to Paul Gittins.
Ashley McGrane 2 and James Clarke were the marksmen for Portishead Town who cruised to a 3-0 victory at Roman Glass St.George with all of the goals coming in the first half.
Westbury United were 2-1 winners at home to Hengrove Athletic thanks to Jamie Mines and Simon Millard. In between times, Ricky Clarke was on target for Athletic.
