FA Carlsberg Vase Sixth Round

Vase holders Whitley Bay moved into the two-legged semi-finals once again with a convincing 5-1 win at Sheldon in Saturday’s quarter final tie. Sam Garvie gave the home side the lead on 21 minutes but the North-Easterners came back into the game when Paul Chow netted a penalty for a foul by Phil Brumwell for which the former Darlington player was sent off.
David Coulson fired Whitley ahead after the break, and Phil Bull headed the third goal with 20 minutes to go. Darren Timmons was then sent off for the visitors but a second red card for Shildon, this time to Justin Keegan, virtually ended their hopes. Whitley Bay sealed victory with two goals in the final few minutes through Bell and another penalty this time taken by Lee Kerr.
Sussex outfit Whitehawk won 3-1 at Gresley with goals coming from Scott Kirkwood and two from Wes Tate. Matt Hill at one time levelled for the home side direct from a corner.
Wroxham edged out former finalists Needham Market 2-1 after taking an early lead from a disputed penalty kick. Shaun Howes fired them in front but the home side equalized after 69 minutes when Damien Hilton also scored form the penalty spot. Wroxham booked a place in the semi-finals when Steve Spriggs netted from close range.
