Ashton 1 : 0 Imperial
In a very good first half Ashton put on much of the pressure and were rewarded when Mike Summerhayes broke through the Imperial defence to take the lead. Imperial stayed solid in defence but most of their dangerous forwards were kept quite by the pace of the Ashton defenders James Parsons and Chris Pearson. The second half started with Imperial putting on a lot of pressure especially from their skilful winger Dan Caswell. Unfortunately Imperial’s outstanding defender Joe Smith had a bad injury and had to be taken to hospital and was replaced by Chopper Watkins. This held the game up for 30 minutes and all at Ashton would like to wish Joe a speedy recovery. Ashton could have gone 2 up but a bad bobble lead to a near miss from the outstanding Summerhayes. Excellent performances came from the Ashton midfield of Joe Cook, Frazer Clarke, Arron Horner and Adam Scrase which helped Ashton to be the only team to beat Imperial over the last 2 seasons.

Cutters Friday 1 : 2 Whitchurch
Another tight contest between the two teams that was played at a very high tempo for the entire 90 minutes. Whitchurch put Cutters under pressure early on, and within 10 mins went ahead with a shot from Conor Walker from inside the penalty area. Whitchurch then squandered 3 glorious chances to extend the lead, thanks to some fine saves from the Cutters goalkeeper. The game went end to end, and was fiercely fought throughout, but the half finished 1-0. The second half continued as before, and Cutters were now pressing in search of an equaliser. With both teams having good chances, including the Cutters crossbar being hit by Dean Chapman, Grant Caddick and George Laver, it was obvious that there would be more goals in this game. With approx 10 minutes left on the clock, a long ball into the Whitchurch half saw Cutter’s Jack Povey in a race for the loose ball with the Whitchurch keeper, Enrico Thompson James. Both players attacked the ball at the same time, but it was Povey who came away with it, then fired into the empty net to make it 1-1. The game was opened up even more now, as both teams went for the win. With 6 minutes to go, a looping shot from 25 yards by Danny Smith could only be pushed onto the crossbar by the Cutters keeper, and rebounded out into the path of Conor Walker, who fired in his 26th goal of the season to put Whitchurch back in front. The last few minutes were all action, and with seconds remaining, and Whitchurch desperately trying to keep Cutters out, a shot was fired in from the right, through the crowd of players and was heading towards goal, when the Whitchurch keeper launched himself through the mass of players and palmed the ball out for a corner with a magnificent save. Whitchurch held on, winning 2-1, and if they had not suffered a 1 point deduction earlier in the season, would have been Champions.
Well played to both teams, who made this a thrilling contest.
