Midweek saw the top of the table clash between Almondsbury and Oldland Abbotonians being postponed again. This gave Yate Town the chance to take advantage and move up to second place. Yate took the lead in their midweek home match against bottom club Longwell Green Sports in the first half and it appeared a foregone conclusion that the Yate side would sail through the second half adding comfortably to their goal tally. It was Longwell Green Sports who the initiative after half time and squander chances before equalising. However, Yate went straight back in front, only for Longwell Green to equalize on merit again. But, a late Yate goal made the final score 3-2 to the home side. Scorers for Yate were Troy Budd [2] and skipper Callum “C.J.” Warren; Longwell Green’s goals came from Jamie Wright and substitute Ciaran McCalla.
Yate moved into second place as a result of the win over Longwell Green, with the outcome of the Almondsbury v Oldland Abbotonians match being placed before the League’s Management Committee for a decision. Unless the Committee rules in favour of Oldland, Yate will become runners up after two successive championships.
Forest Green Rovers have had a good run of results recently, but lost 2-0 away to Almondsbury, both goals being scored by Mitch Davenport. This win gave Almondsbury the League championship for the first time, with two matches to be played; having already also beaten Forest Green 2-0 in the League Cup final in April Almondsbury completed a League & Cup double.
