On Tuesday night there was a crunch match at the New Lawn in Nailsworth, where Forest Green Rovers entertained Cadbury Heath and it was Forest Green who took the advantage in the first half to lead 3-0 at the interval. Cadbury Heath did score in the second half to make the result 3-1. This left Cadbury Heath having to win their last two matches by an aggregate of six clear goals to pip Forest Green Rovers for the runners up spot. Nevertheless, with a number of matches still to play Wotton Rovers were also in a position to grab the runners up spot. After their win over Cadbury Heath, Forest Green have to sit tight and watch, as they have finished their fixtures.
On Wednesday there was the local derby between Thornbury Town and Winterbourne United which ended 1-1 with a David Watola goal for Thornbury being cancelled out by a Dave Herbert effort for Winterbourne. The following night Bristol Manor Farm finished their season with a 5-1 win at Longwell Green Sports. The size of the win flattered Manor Farm, who are leaving the League this season. Manor Farm went into the half time break 1-0 up after both sides had opportunities the score two or three goals. The difference in the second half was that Manor Farm made the most of their chances with Jay Harrison [2], Jordan Rogers [2] and Ashley Palmer scoring, with Sam Baker netting Longwell Green Sports goal.
The two weekend matches were all about the runners up position in the League with Cheltenham Saracens visiting Cadbury Heath and Wotton Rovers playing home to Shirehampton. In the first match Cadbury Heath took an early lead with a crisp 20 yard shot from Charlie Stevens. However, both sides missed first half opportunities. Half way through the second half Kris Lee put Cadbury Heath 2-0 ahead. Then Cheltenham Saracens missed a gilt edged opportunity to get a goal back. Immediately the ball went down the other end, but from the Saracens’ keeper’s clearance Tom Sellars volleyed the ball from the centre circle straight into the Saracens net. With the final score of 3-0 Cadbury Heath need to win their final League match away at Cheltenham Saracens by at least 3-0 to overall Forest Green Rovers, who are in second place. However, a 3-0 win will not guarantee Cadbury Heath the runners up spot as Wotton Rovers could mathematically catch both Cadbury Heath and Forest Green.
Wotton Rovers beat Shirehampton 4-1 on Sunday with goals from Tom Woods [2], Richard Thwaite and Tom Stubbs, with Dan Griffiths netting for Shirehampton. Wotton will need to win their remaining four matches with large scores to overhaul Forest Green Rovers and Cadbury Heath for the runners up spot.
